upon a sea of vibrant lavender

upon a sea of vibrant lavender
we drape a picnic—the sail-like blanket
crushes a small field of flowers, oozing a
scintillating scent that stars our eyes.
endless hills stretch on all sides—
each petal a brilliant blue-tinted nib,
with a sliver of softest green
when the wind encourages the fragile stalks
to ripple like ocean waves.
the bumblebees meander from plant to joyful plant,
agreeing that this is the place to be.
as the sun sets, brushing its golden light across
the summer blossoms, the sky
sighs with contentment.
it’s been a long day.
