In the wake of COP26 and increasing awareness around the climate crisis, we’re all looking for ways to live more sustainably. From the food we eat down to the clothes we wear. That’s where StyleSwap, a new reselling platform with goals to revolutionise the digital marketplace and shopping pre-loved, comes in.

Founded by Josephine Waddington in 2019 and officially launched yesterday (Nov 2nd), StyleSwap prioritises the planet by focusing on circularity and community. It offers a look at and access to some of the world’s most stylish wardrobes. Monetising wardrobes and sharing in this way will only become more commonplace, permanently and positively changing the way the fashion industry works. But a balance between style and sustainability can be hard to strike at times. Which StyleSwap aims to combat by encouraging users to make conscious choices without sacrificing their individuality.

Setting it apart from other reselling services and platforms, StyleSwap offers a seamless experience for buyers and sellers by combining conscious shopping, community and high-quality content. Unparalleled and innovative AI tailors to users, helping them find fashion to match their body, style and needs. Harnessing technology and using gorgeous photography makes sustainable shopping effortless, offering a fresh look at how we can increase personalisation in the realm.

You’ll find StyleSwap is full of digital-first brands like Ganni and Rat and Boa, as well as the fanciest luxury brands, like Gucci and Dior. Above all, the platform concentrates on quality. Any product that does not live up to its premium offering or condition criteria will face vetting. Before listing, sellers must submit products for approval, providing buyers with a reassuring stamp of security before parting with a penny.

With all this shopping and selling, StyleSwap will continue to create a dynamic, creative community, forming friendships and empowering people across the world to come together and build a more sustainable planet. In which they will be more engaged with fashion and choose their clothes consciously if they can.

Founder of StyleSwap, Josephine Waddington

Following a degree in Multimedia Design at Northumbria University, founder, Josephine Waddington, began her career in fast fashion. While she worked creatively for Mango, Zara, and Topshop, and her designs were worn by everyone from Ellie Goulding to Cara Delevingne, seeing behind the scenes led to a realisation for Josephine. She learnt of the extreme damage stemming from fast fashion and decided to apply her skills elsewhere. To impart kindness and change by exploring slow fashion and making StyleSwap a reality.

“I founded StyleSwap as I felt strongly that I wanted to positively contribute to the much needed change in our fashion industry,” Waddington said. “I have always loved the art of shopping, expressing style is a liberating experience. I wanted to show customers that you can look great and be creative. StyleSwap is good for the planet and great for your wallet. One of the many challenges of shopping pre-loved is sizing and photography, two areas we are excited to disrupt.”

StyleSwap is available to use internationally from now. It will only continue to grow and encourage sustainability in fashion, breaking down barriers people may face to buying pre-loved. Products you’ll be able to find on StyleSwap include dresses, blouses, jumpsuits and jeans (& more) from a range of high-quality brands and designers, ensuring you’ll have everything you need to put an outfit together.

Over the coming decade, Waddington has plans to redistribute approximately 10 million pre-loved fashion items (by 2026). She hopes to facilitate collaboration and make a positive environmental impact, aligning with the rapidly changing fashion landscape and the ever-altering ways we choose to shop and curate our clothes.
