Annie Taylor is not one woman but a band. ‘Ride High’ is their newest single, and it came out on June 2nd in advance of their eagerly-anticipated forthcoming LP, Inner Smile, which will be released early next month.

The Swiss band are made up of Gini Jungi, Tobias Arn, Michael Mutter and Daniel Bachmann.

Their now imminent second album was recorded in Bristol with producer Ali Chant, who has previously worked with Katy J. Pearson, Aldous Harding and Sorry, whose influence is audible.

Following up their 2020 debut, Sweet Morality, Annie Taylor describe themselves as making “grunge psychedelic rock” with hints of Mazzy Star and 90s nostalgia.

‘Ride High’ is a dynamic and energetic indie rock anthem that grabs you from start to finish. Taylor's raw and emotive vocals carry the song's message of fierce determination and resilience.

The guitar riffs are punchy and memorable, with a touch of distortion which adds a thin layer of grit to the song.

The music video follows lead singer, Gini Jungi, around the sights and sounds of LA in the summertime. It’s grungy, happy, moody and laidback if it can be all those things at once.

The lyrics are distinctly personal as Jungi sings about drifting apart from people, fighting through adversity and pushing past obstacles to achieve her goals. Lyrics like "I won't cave in, I won't back down, I'll rise again" and “Stand up for what you believe” re-enforce the singer’s perseverance and the song's empowering message.

She said of the single: “‘Ride High’ is a song that speaks to the universal experience of feeling lost and disconnected from those we love…Sometimes I feel like friends and family are drifting away, following different paths in life. Of course, that hurts, but also makes me realise how important it is to look closely on our own path of life and that everyone is responsible for their own luck somehow.”

Annie Taylor’s forthcoming album, Inner Smile, will be released on July 7th via Taxi Gauche Records. The band have just played Brighton’s Great Escape and have live dates scheduled across Europe.
