Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, Caroline Polachek: Multi-Genre Girl Power Taken on the Road

Dua Lipa, with tour support from openers, Megan Thee Stallion and Caroline Polachek, took the long-awaited celebration of her bombshell album ‘Future Nostalgia’ on the road to the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, back in March (15th).

The party began with Polachek, who, while slowly rolling out singles from her much anticipated follow up to debut album, ‘Pang’, has also been performing tried and true favourites such as ‘So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings’ and unreleased songs like ‘Sunset’.

Though Polachek may be the least headline-grabbing of the three performers, she was by far the best way to open Lipa’s girl power party, providing equal parts drama and enthusiasm with hits such as the explosive ‘Ocean of Tears’ and bad bitch anthem ‘Bunny is a Rider’.

Megan Thee Stallion catered her setlist to those who have been there from the very beginning, with most of the songs selected from her EP, Tina Snow’ and mixtape ‘Fever’‘Realer’‘Freak Nasty’‘Cash Shit’, and ‘Big Ole Freak’ were among hits, ‘WAP’, ‘Body’ and ‘Savage’.

The only song from Megan’s recently released mixtape, ‘Something for the Hotties’, was the single, ‘Megan’s Piano’. Of course, Megan’s signature twerking was on full display throughout her performance, giving the horde of energetic fans permission to do the same.

Finally, it was time for the main event. Dua Lipa’s music was also designed for dancing, and the throng of eager concert-goers obliged after a couple of years of only getting to dance alone in their homes.

Dancing, jumping and singing along to every song in the cavernous arena was a mandate. Lipa played every song from ‘Future Nostalgia’, even the more lackluster ones – ‘Good in Bed’ and ‘Boys will be Boys’.

Lipa decided to perform only two songs from her debut album, the one that started it all, ‘New Rules’ and the underrated ‘Be the One’. The absence of the seething ‘IDGAF’ was felt. Lipa also performed the songs she’s been featured on - ‘Electricity’, which she performed with a rainbow blanket wrapped around her to illustrate her allegiance with the LGBTQ community, ‘One Kiss’, and the inescapable Elton John duet, ‘Cold Heart’.

Megan Thee Stallion also came back out for the first live performance of her and Lipa’s latest song, ‘Sweetest Pie’.

For an encore, Lipa played the title track from ‘Future Nostalgia’, and the mega disco inflected break up hit that is still permeating culture, ‘Don’t Start Now’.

The frenetic girl power spectacle was a welcome respite from everyday worries and a hopeful look toward impending spring and summertime concerts.

Lipa will be taking her tour throughout the United States and Europe, ending in August in Hungary.
